The Best Shopify SEO Audit Tools, Compared Honestly
Every roundup of SEO audit tools compares feature tables. Almost none of them answers the only three questions that decide which one you should open: how much you get without paying, whether you have to hand over an email first, and which platform the tool was built around. This page compares those.
Eleven tools, all checked on 13 October 2026 by reading each vendor’s own page. Each card carries the vendor’s Trustpilot score read the same day, because that is where software gets reviewed. Nothing is scored out of ten by me, and where a score rests on too few reviews to mean anything the card says so instead of hiding it.
Disclosure: one of the eleven is mine. It is marked, it is not first, and its entry says who it is wrong for. If that is not the kind of list you wanted, the table below still works without it.

What actually separates these tools?
These tools all claim to audit a website, and on a feature list they look nearly identical: crawl, titles, speed, links. The differences that matter are elsewhere.
- What the free run actually returns. Several of the best known names here do not have a free tier at all. They have a free trial, which is a different thing: you create an account, hand over an email, and the clock starts.
- Whether it makes you register before you see anything. This is the single biggest practical difference between the eleven, and the one the marketing pages are least direct about.
- Which platform it was built around. Two of the most popular free analyzers come from WordPress plugin companies. They are good tools. Their recommendations assume a WordPress install, which a Shopify store does not have.
- Whether anything is ranked. A list of forty issues in the order the crawler found them is raw material. Deciding what to fix first is the work.
Sorted below by how much you get without paying or registering, because that is the question a store owner is actually asking. It is not a quality ranking, and the order would change completely if you sorted by depth.
Which Shopify SEO tool should I use?
| Tool | Rating | Free run | Account needed | Built around |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Diib | 3.1 (277) | Full scan with no card | Account to keep the dashboard | Any site |
| SEOptimer | 4.1 (32) | Enter a URL and get a free analysis | Not required for the basic analysis | Any site |
| SEO Karbon | No reviews yet | The whole report | None at all | Shopify specifically |
| Rank Math SEO Analyzer | 4.6 (1,461) | A detailed report, free, no payment | Account for the full report | Built around WordPress |
| AIOSEO Analyzer | 3.8 (338) | A free website SEO audit report | Account for the full report | Built around WordPress |
| Seobility | 4.6 (88) | Free SEO Checker on the public page, with daily limits | Free 14 day trial for the full crawl | Any site |
| SE Ranking Website Audit | 4.1 (713) | Trial only | Required | Any site |
| SEO Site Checkup | 1.7 (25) | 7 day free trial | Required | Any site |
| WooRank | 2.6 (4) too few | Free trial | Required | Any site |
| Sitechecker | 4.4 (106) | Some free tools remain | Required for the audit | Any site |
| Ubersuggest | 4.1 (577) | Limited free searches, then a 7 day free trial | Required | Any site |
Two things stand out in that column of platforms, and they are the reason this post exists. Not one of the general tools was built for Shopify. And several of the names a store owner is most likely to have heard of are trial-gated, not free.
What is not on this list, and why?
Four categories get left out of this comparison on purpose. They are not worse, they are a different purchase, and mixing them in is what makes most roundups useless.
- Ahrefs and Semrush. Full suites. Both offer a free audit, and both are a funnel into a subscription that starts around $100 a month. If you are comparing free scans, you are not in the market they are selling to.
- Screaming Frog and Sitebulb. Desktop crawlers. You install software, crawl the site yourself and read the result. They are excellent and they are a different job, done by a different person.
- Plug in SEO and the other Shopify apps. Apps that edit your store rather than read it from outside. That is a real difference: an app needs install permissions and can change your theme, where an external audit cannot touch anything.
- PageSpeed Insights. One dimension, measured very well. Use it, but it answers one of the ten questions an audit asks.
Diib

★ 3.1 / 5
277 reviews on Trustpilot
A 60 second scan that leads with a revenue number rather than a checklist.
What the free run gives you
Full scan with no card. Its own page says “Free · No credit card · 60 seconds”.

Account to keep the dashboard

Paid tiers shown from a few dollars a month

Any site
Right for Someone who wants a number to react to in a minute, not a report to read.
Wrong for Anyone who wants the evidence behind each finding. The headline claim on its own homepage is “Find the next $1,000/month hiding in your website”, which is a marketing promise rather than a measurement.
SEOptimer

★ 4.1 / 5
32 reviews on Trustpilot
A long-running audit and reporting tool, now also pitching AI visibility.
What the free run gives you
Enter a URL and get a free analysis. Its page says “Enter a website URL to get a free analysis!” and “Trusted by 90,000+ users worldwide”.

Built around
Any site
Right for Agencies who want a white label PDF to send a client.
Wrong for A store owner who wants to know which finding costs the most money. It grades, it does not prioritise by revenue.
SEO Karbon
I built this one. It is on the list because it fits the category, not because it is mine. It has no reviews because it is new, the entry below says plainly who it is wrong for, and every other tool here has a track record it does not.
A Shopify-specific audit that reads the store from outside and ranks findings by the revenue at risk.
What the free run gives you
The whole report. 71 checks across 10 areas, no login, no email, no app install.
Account needed
None at all
Paid from
Free. Paid audits are a separate product on digitalkarbon.com
Built around
Shopify specifically
Right for A Shopify store that wants the Shopify-shaped faults other tools miss: /collections/all duplicates, variant and filter URLs, and product data.
Wrong for Anyone not on Shopify, and anyone who needs Search Console data in the report, which it cannot read. It is also new, so it has none of the track record the names above have.

Right for Keyword research, which is what it is genuinely built for.
Wrong for Treating it as an audit tool first. Its own page still calls it a “Free Keyword Research Tool”, and the audit is the smaller half of the product.
Why do general SEO tools miss Shopify faults?
Run any of the general tools against a Shopify store and the report will be broadly right and quietly incomplete, because Shopify generates URL patterns that a generic crawler reads as ordinary pages.
- The same product on several URLs. A product reachable at its own address and again under every collection it belongs to, competing with itself.
- Filter and sort parameters. Faceted navigation can turn one collection into hundreds of near-identical crawlable addresses.
- Product data as a ranking surface. On a catalogue, the structured data on product pages decides whether price and availability appear in search at all.
A general audit tool will not flag these as Shopify faults, because to the crawler they look like normal pages. That is the gap, and it is why the category is worth writing about rather than just listing.
When is a free audit not enough?
Everything on this page reads your store from the outside. That is the strength, because it means no install and no permissions, and it is also the ceiling. None of these tools can open your Search Console, so none of them can tell you that a collection page lost 40% of its clicks last quarter, or which query it lost them on. That fact only exists inside your own account.
So a free audit is the right first move and a poor last one. It tells you whether anything is structurally wrong and roughly what it is worth fixing. Once you want to know what changed and when, somebody has to read the account, and that is where paid audits start. I wrote up what those cost, and what separates a cheap one from an expensive one, in what an SEO audit actually costs.
How do I read a free audit without being sold to?
Whichever of these you run, including mine, the report is a sales document as well as a diagnosis. Four habits keep it useful.
- Check what the tool is selling before you read the findings. A free analyzer from a plugin company will find problems its plugin fixes. That does not make the findings wrong, but it explains the emphasis.
- Ask what was measured and what was inferred. Anything a tool cannot see from outside your store, such as your Search Console data, is an estimate however confidently it is printed.
- Ignore the score and read the top three findings. Composite scores are built on different weightings by every vendor, so two tools can score the same store 40 and 80 while both being right.
- Do not buy an app to fix something you have not confirmed is broken. Several of these tools exist to sell a subscription, which is fine as long as you are deciding rather than being told.
If a report lists everything it found with no order of priority, it has handed you the raw material and kept the work. Ranking the findings against what each one is costing you is the part that takes judgment.
