The Best Shopify SEO Agencies, Compared Honestly

Search for a Shopify SEO agency and you get six roundups, each one written by an agency that puts itself first with the only full marks in its own comparison table, plus Shopify’s own help page telling you to improve your meta descriptions.

So here is the comparison I would want if I were the one hiring. It covers eight agencies, every fact attributed to Clutch rather than to the agencies’ own marketing, and it is organized around what actually differs between them. I have not given anyone a score out of ten — a made-up scale on someone else’s business is exactly what makes the other lists feel rigged.

Disclosure: I run a competing business. That is exactly why I have kept myself out of the ranking below rather than quietly placing myself in it. Every agency here is assessed on published facts, and my own pitch is at the foot of the page where you can ignore it.

What actually decides whether a Shopify SEO agency is right for you?

Star ratings tell you almost nothing here — every agency on this page sits at 4.8 or above on Clutch. What separates them is structural, and all of it is knowable before you book a call.

  • Minimum spend or minimum project size. The single biggest filter. Victorious will not take a project under $50,000, Storm Brain sits at $10,000, and the rest publish a $1,000 floor that is closer to a formality than a real constraint.
  • The hourly rate band. PageTraffic is under $25 an hour, Storm Brain is $150 to $199, and Victorious is $300 and up. A wide rate band inside one category means the work itself is not standardized — ask what a typical month of hours looks like.
  • How much of the agency is actually SEO. Intero Digital runs 70 percent SEO and 30 percent PPC with nothing else. Storm Brain runs 10 percent SEO inside a web design and development shop. Both are legitimate businesses, but they are not the same purchase.
  • Who actually runs the account. You meet a strategist in the pitch. Ask who logs in on a Tuesday, and how many other accounts that person has. Clutch’s own review highlights name account-manager turnover as a recurring theme at more than one agency on this page.
  • Contract length. None of these agencies publish a term on Clutch, which means it is a question for the call, not an assumption you bring into it.

Ask one question on every call: “What percentage of your business is SEO, and what is the rest?” An agency whose SEO line is a tenth of what it sells is a different purchase from one that is almost entirely SEO, even at the same star rating.

Which agency fits, at a glance?

Ratings, review counts, minimums, rates and team sizes all come from each agency’s Clutch profile, read on 13 October 2026. Where a figure is not published I have said so rather than guessing.

What clients praise

“SearchBloom feels like an extension of our own team rather than another agency we have to manage.”

The criticism

Room for Improvement in Reporting. Some clients find the reporting good but want more actionable insight built into it, and a few noted development-timeline delays tied to project complexity.

Right for Brands who want SEO run alongside paid search and conversion testing by the same team, under one data-driven process.

Wrong for Anyone who wants SEO run completely separately from paid media, with no need for the two teams to coordinate.

What should you ask on every call?

Every agency on this page will sound competent on a call, because selling is a separate skill from doing SEO and the person you meet first is good at the first one. These questions are where the answers actually differ.

  1. What percentage of your business is SEO, versus everything else you sell? Intero Digital and PageTraffic will say most of it. Storm Brain will say a tenth. Neither answer is wrong, but they are different purchases at the same star rating.
  2. Who logs into my account, and how many other accounts do they have? A senior strategist on six accounts and a junior on twenty are different products at the same retainer. Hesitation here is informative.
  3. Is the hourly rate the real cost, or is there a retainer on top? A $50 rate and a 200-hour month cost more than a $150 rate and a 40-hour month. Ask for the expected monthly hours, not just the band.
  4. What happens to the account manager if they leave? More than one agency here has a published Clutch theme about account-manager turnover. Ask what the handover process actually looks like.
  5. What would you refuse to do on my store? An agency with no answer either has no opinions or will not share them. Both are expensive over a year.
  6. Show me a store you took over that you could not fix. Nobody wins every account. The ones worth hiring can tell you about a loss and what they learned from it.

Ask for the name of the person who will actually be in your Shopify admin and Search Console, then look them up before you sign. If the strategist on the pitch is not the person doing the work, you want to know that while you still have leverage.

Is it worth hiring an agency under $5,000 a month?

This is the part the other lists leave out. If your store is doing under roughly $5,000 a month in revenue, a management fee of even $1,000 a month is a real share of what the business can afford, and the agencies here with meaningful minimums — Victorious at $50,000, Storm Brain at $10,000 — are simply not built for that stage yet.

Below that level you are usually better off running the fundamentals yourself and buying a few hours to fix what is broken. The audit checklist I use on inherited accounts is published in full, free, and finds most of what a first month of paid SEO management would have found.

A $1,000-a-month management fee on a store doing $4,000 a month in revenue is a quarter of the business going to management rather than to product or ads. A good agency telling you to wait is useful information, not a rejection.

Questions people ask

How much does a Shopify SEO agency cost?
Most of the agencies on this page publish a Clutch minimum of $1,000, with hourly rates from under $25 to $300 and up. The minimum is a floor, not a monthly price — ask for the actual monthly retainer on the call, because the published band can hide a much higher number.
What is the difference between a Shopify SEO agency and a general SEO agency?
A Shopify-specific agency has already solved the platform’s recurring technical issues — duplicate collection and filter URLs, variant pages competing with each other, and the app-bloat that slows a store down — so you are not paying to have those mistakes discovered for the first time on your account.
Can I do Shopify SEO myself instead of hiring an agency?
Below roughly $5,000 a month in revenue impact, often yes. A one-time audit plus a few hours of fixes usually finds more than a first month of agency management would, and the checklist I use on inherited accounts is free.
Should I hire the agency with the highest Clutch rating?
No. Every agency on this page sits at 4.8 or above, so the rating does not discriminate between them. What differs is the minimum, who does the work, and whether the agency’s own service mix is mostly SEO or mostly something else wrapped around it.
Do I own my SEO results if I leave the agency?
Content and on-page changes stay on your store either way. What can be lost is momentum and institutional knowledge — ask who owns the keyword research, the content calendar, and any backlink outreach relationships before you sign, not after you leave.

The alternative to all of them

Every channel,
one manager.

I run Google Ads, Meta, Amazon and Microsoft for direct-to-consumer brands on Shopify, by myself. The person you meet on the call is the person in your account, because there is nobody else to hand it to.

$1,500

Starting monthly fee

$0

1

People in your account

  • No multiple managers. One person runs every channel, so nothing falls between them, and the fee buys work rather than an account manager, a sales team and an office.
  • The ad accounts are opened in your name. The conversion history stays yours when you leave, and Smart Bidding runs on that history.
  • Rolling, not a twelve-month term. I keep the work by doing it.

I am wrong for enterprise, for brands that need cover around the clock, and for anyone who wants an account manager between them and the work. If that is you, hire from the list above. It is a good list, which is why I wrote it. Otherwise, here is how I work with ecommerce brands.
