SEO Services for Ecommerce Websites: Six Options, and Who Each Is Wrong For
Every roundup of ecommerce SEO agencies I have found does at least one of three things: puts its own firm first, links to nobody so you cannot check a claim, or names firms with no minimum, no price and no store they would be the wrong hire for.
So here is the comparison I would want if I were the one hiring. It covers eight agencies, built from what each one’s own Clutch profile actually publishes — rating, minimum project size, hourly rate, team size, and the praise and criticism Clutch’s reviewers themselves surfaced. I have not given anyone a score out of ten. A score on someone else’s business is invented precision, and it is exactly why these lists feel rigged.
Disclosure: I run a competing business. That is why I have kept myself out of the ranking below rather than quietly placing myself in it. Every agency here is assessed on published facts, and my own pitch is at the foot of the page where you can ignore it.
What actually decides fit
Star ratings tell you almost nothing here. Every agency on this page sits at 4.8 or above on Clutch. What actually separates them is structural, and all of it is knowable before you book a call.
- Minimum project size. Seven of the eight agencies here publish a $1,000 minimum on Clutch. The eighth, Victorious, publishes $50,000+ — fifty times the others — which alone rules it out for most stores reading this.
- The hourly rate. These range from $50–$99 an hour up to $300+. A higher rate is not automatically better work; it is usually a larger agency with more account-management overhead baked into the price.
- Team size. Two of these firms run 250–999 people. Two run under 50. A large team means more specialists on staff and a higher chance of a rotating cast on your account; a small team means the person who pitched you is more likely to be the person doing the work.
- What Clutch’s own reviewers flag as the weak point. Every agency below has a published criticism, pulled from Clutch’s aggregated “Review Highlights,” not a cherry-picked bad review. Read it before the pitch, not after.
- Services beyond SEO. A firm that also sells PPC, web design or conversion work can bundle your channels under one roof. That is convenient for some stores and a reason to walk for stores that want a pure SEO specialist with nothing else competing for attention.
Ask one question on every call: “Who specifically will be working on my account, and what else are they juggling?” The published team size tells you how likely a rotating cast is. How comfortable they are naming a person tells you the rest.
The comparison, in one table
Ratings, minimums, rates and team sizes all come from each agency’s own Clutch profile, read fresh on 23 October 2026.
| Agency | Rating | Minimum | Rate | Team | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Coalition Technologies | 4.8 (167) | $1,000+ | $50 – $99 | 50 – 249 | Lower minimum, broad SEO scope |
| SeoProfy | 4.9 (99) | $1,000+ | $50 – $99 | 50 – 249 | Link-building focus, low hourly rate |
| Searchbloom | 4.9 (102) | $1,000+ | $100 – $149 | 10 – 49 | Small team, SEO plus PPC |
| SmartSites | 4.9 (369) | $1,000+ | $100 – $149 | 250 – 999 | SEO plus PPC under one roof |
| Inflow | 4.9 (12) | $1,000+ | $150 – $199 | 10 – 49 | Named strategists, ecommerce focus |
| OuterBox | 5.0 (93) | $1,000+ | $150 – $199 | 250 – 999 | Ecommerce sites needing a redesign too |
| WebFX | 4.9 (454) | $1,000+ | Undisclosed | 250 – 999 | Largest team, published packages |
| Victorious | 4.8 (119) | $50,000+ | $300+ | 50 – 249 | SEO-only, highest minimum here |
Every option wins a row. A comparison where one side wins everything is an advertisement, and you should discount it.

What clients praise
“We appreciated how they took the time to understand our unique business, allowing them to service our needs better.”
The criticism
Communication and timeliness slip on some accounts. A share of clients reported delayed responses and missed deadlines, which Clutch lists as a recurring theme rather than an isolated complaint.
Right for A smaller store that wants a full SEO audit and ongoing work without a five-figure minimum.
Wrong for A store that needs a consistently-assigned point of contact and can’t tolerate a slow reply.
SeoProfy
★ 4.9 / 5
99 reviews on Clutch
An SEO shop that lists ecommerce marketing as its own named service line and leans heavily on link building.

What clients praise
“SeoProfy’s strong technical capabilities are impressive.”
The criticism
Technical recommendations could go deeper on platform specifics. Some clients wanted more detail on platform-specific technical implementation rather than general best practice.
Right for A store that wants backlink-building as the centerpiece of its SEO program.
Wrong for A store on an unusual or custom platform that needs someone already fluent in that platform’s constraints.

What clients praise
“Aside from the outstanding results, I was impressed by the fact that the whole team truly cares about our success.”
The criticism
Development timelines can slip on complex builds. Some clients saw delays on the technical or development side of a project, which Clutch attributes partly to project complexity.
Right for A mid-size store that wants a smaller team’s attention without a five-figure minimum.
Wrong for A large, complex catalog that needs enterprise-scale technical resourcing behind it.
SmartSites
★ 4.9 / 5
369 reviews on Clutch
A large New Jersey shop that splits its work between SEO and PPC, so a store running both can staff them from one firm.

What clients praise
“They’re extremely knowledgeable in what they do.”
The criticism
Starts with a standard playbook, not a custom one. Some clients said SmartSites’ initial strategy leaned on a standardized approach before it was tailored to their specific needs.
Right for A store that wants SEO and PPC coordinated by one agency instead of two.
Wrong for A store that wants a bespoke strategy from the first week rather than one customized after initial feedback.
Inflow
★ 4.9 / 5
12 reviews on Clutch
An ecommerce and lead-gen specialist built around named senior strategists instead of account managers.

What clients praise
“I’m impressed with their combination of deep expertise and the ability to deliver consistently.”
The criticism
Cost is hard to justify on a small budget. Some clients, particularly smaller businesses, found it challenging to justify SEO spend against revenue and wanted a more revenue-tied structure.
Right for A mid-size store that wants the same specialist on every call, not a rotating team.
Wrong for A small store on a tight monthly budget, where the fee itself becomes the sticking point.
OuterBox
★ 5.0 / 5
93 reviews on Clutch
An ecommerce-specific agency that pairs SEO with site design and conversion work, across Shopify, BigCommerce, Magento and WooCommerce.

What clients praise
“What stands out about their team is the fact they always fulfill their promises on time and within budget.”
The criticism
Staff turnover disrupts continuity on some accounts. Some clients noted turnover among the people assigned to their account, which meant re-explaining context to a new team member mid-engagement.
Right for A store planning a redesign or platform migration at the same time as an SEO push, so one firm owns both.
Wrong for A store that is happy with its current site and only wants rankings worked on.
WebFX

What clients praise
“They made it a priority to understand our unique business.”
The criticism
Content quality varies by writer. A portion of clients flagged inconsistent content quality, particularly around matching brand voice, across the account team.
Right for A store that wants a number in writing before the first call and is comfortable with an account-team structure.
Wrong for A store that wants one named senior strategist in their account rather than a rotating team.
Victorious
★ 4.8 / 5
119 reviews on Clutch
A San Francisco SEO-only agency Clutch lists at a $50,000+ minimum project size, the highest on this page by a wide margin.
Minimum

Hourly rate
$300+

Services: Search Engine Optimization · Content Marketing · Web Development
What clients praise
“What sets this team apart is their fearless approach to transparency and their forward-looking technical expertise.”
The criticism
Content needs a second pass for brand voice. Some clients said the content Victorious produces needs additional editing to match their brand’s tone before it is usable as-is.
Right for A larger, well-funded store that wants SEO run with nothing else competing for the budget.
Wrong for Anyone below seven figures in revenue. The minimum alone rules out most stores reading this.
Questions worth asking before you sign
Everyone on this page will sound competent on a call, because selling is a different skill from running an account and the person you meet first is good at the first one. These are the questions where the answers actually diverge.
- Who specifically works on my account, day to day? A named senior strategist and a rotating junior pool are different products sold at the same rate. Hesitation here is informative.
- What does the published minimum actually buy? A $1,000 minimum and a $50,000 minimum both exist on this page. Ask what work fills that budget in month one, specifically.
- What would you refuse to do? An agency with no answer either has no opinions or will not share them. Both are expensive over a year.
- Is SEO the whole engagement, or one line item among several? A firm selling SEO, PPC and web design together has an incentive to recommend whichever service is easiest to sell you next, not whichever your store needs most.
- Show me an account you took over that you could not fix. Nobody wins every account. The ones worth hiring can describe a loss and what they learned from it.
Ask for the name of the person who will actually run the account, then look them up before you sign. If the strategist on the pitch is not the person doing the work, you want to know that while you still have leverage.
If even a $1,000 minimum is too much
This is the part the glossy roundups leave out. If a $1,000 monthly minimum is still a stretch for your store, hiring any agency on this page is usually the wrong move before you have fixed the basics yourself.
Below that level, most stores are better off running a first pass themselves and buying a few hours of help only where it is genuinely stuck. The questions I use to judge an ecommerce SEO agency before paying one work just as well as a self-check, and what ecommerce SEO actually costs breaks down the pricing models above in more depth, including why a minimum rarely matches what a month of work is worth.
An agency that takes a tiny account on a $1,000 retainer is not doing you a favor. The economics put that account with the most junior person in the building. A firm saying no to you, or pointing you at a cheaper option, is useful information, not a rejection.
Whichever firm you pick, or none of them yet, know what you are buying before the first invoice. How long SEO actually takes to show up sets the timeline most of these pitches will not.
