This policy explains what happens to your information when you visit digitalkarbon.com or get in touch. It is written in plain English, and it describes what this website actually does rather than every theoretical possibility.
Who I am
Digital Karbon is the trading name of Greg Asuncion, an independent ecommerce paid media consultant based in Massachusetts, United States. I am the only person who operates this website and the only person who sees enquiries sent through it. You can reach me at greg@digitalkarbon.com.
What this policy covers
This policy covers the website at digitalkarbon.com only. It does not cover advertising accounts, analytics properties or online stores that I manage on behalf of clients. Those remain the property of the client, are governed by the client’s own privacy policy, and are subject to the terms of Google, Meta, Amazon, Microsoft and any other platform involved.
Information you give me
There is no contact form on this site. You can reach me in two ways, and each involves different information:
- Email. If you email me, I receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you write. Email is handled by my email provider.
- Booking a call. The scheduling tool on this site is provided by Koalendar. When you book, you give Koalendar your name, email address and chosen time, plus anything you type into their form. That information is collected by Koalendar and passed to me. It is covered by Koalendar’s own privacy policy as well as this one.
I only ask for what is needed to reply to you and hold a call. You are never required to create an account to use this site.
Information collected automatically
This website is hosted by GoDaddy. Like effectively all web hosting, their servers keep access logs, which typically record your IP address, the pages requested, timestamps, your browser and operating system, and the page that referred you. These logs exist for security and for diagnosing faults. I do not use them to build a profile of you.
Analytics and advertising
This site uses Google Analytics 4, which tells me how many people visit, which pages they read, roughly where in the world they are, and which site or search sent them. It is how I know whether the writing on this site is doing its job. Google Tag Manager is also installed; it is a container that decides which measurement tags run and does not itself collect analytics data.
Analytics data is aggregated. I cannot see your name, your email address or your identity from it, and I do not try to connect it to anyone in particular. Google Analytics does set cookies in your browser to recognise a repeat visit, described in the cookies section below. Google acts as my data processor for this, under its own terms and privacy policy.
This site does not run the Meta pixel, Google Ads conversion tracking or any other advertising tag. Visiting this site does not add you to a remarketing audience, and I do not run retargeting ads against visitors to digitalkarbon.com. If that ever changes, this policy and its date will be updated before the change goes live.
You can opt out of Google Analytics entirely by installing Google’s official opt-out browser add-on, or by blocking cookies as described below. Nothing on this site stops working if you do.
Third-party services on this site
These outside services load as part of these pages. Each receives your IP address as a normal consequence of your browser requesting a file from them:
- Google Tag Manager and Google Analytics 4 — measurement, as described above.
- Koalendar — the booking calendar, loaded in a frame in the contact section. Koalendar may set its own cookies within that frame and receives any details you enter when booking.
- Google Fonts — the typefaces used across the site are served by Google. Google receives your IP address and browser details when the font files are requested. No cookie is set by this.
- GoDaddy — the web host, which serves every page and keeps the access logs described above.
- YouTube — only if you press play on the testimonial video. The preview image is served from this site, so nothing reaches YouTube until you choose to watch. The player is then loaded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which does not set tracking cookies unless the video plays.
Cookies
A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to keep. This site uses very few:
- Google Analytics sets cookies beginning
_gato tell a returning visitor from a new one and to group page views into a single visit. They expire automatically, the longest after two years. - WordPress may set a small number of strictly functional cookies, but only if you log in to the site as an administrator. That does not apply to ordinary visitors.
- Koalendar may set its own cookies inside the booking frame, as described above.
No advertising cookies are set by this site. You can block or delete any of these in your browser settings at any time, and the site will still work normally.
How I use your information
- To reply to your enquiry and arrange, hold and follow up on a call
- To provide services if we go on to work together, and to invoice for them
- To keep the site secure and to fix problems with it
- To meet legal, accounting and tax obligations
I do not use your information to make automated decisions about you, and I do not use it to send marketing you did not ask for. There is no mailing list on this site.
Who your information is shared with
I do not sell your personal information, and I never have. I do not share it with advertisers or data brokers. It is handled only by the service providers needed to run the business, which at present are my website host, my email provider, the booking tool and my accounting software. Each processes it on my behalf. I may also disclose information where the law requires it, or to establish or defend a legal claim.
How long it is kept
Enquiries that do not lead to work are kept for up to two years, so that I have context if you come back. Records relating to actual client work are kept for seven years, because tax and accounting rules require it. Server logs are kept for the period set by my host, typically a few months. You can ask me to delete your information sooner, and I will unless I am legally required to keep it.
Your rights
Whoever and wherever you are, you can email me and ask what information I hold about you, ask me to correct it, or ask me to delete it. I will respond within 30 days. I will not charge you for this and I will not treat you differently for asking.
If you are a California resident, the CCPA as amended by the CPRA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected and how it is used, to request deletion or correction, and to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information. As stated above, I do not sell or share personal information, so there is nothing to opt out of. You may use an authorised agent to make a request.
If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, you have rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability and objection under the UK GDPR and EU GDPR. Where I rely on legitimate interests to respond to your enquiry, you may object at any time. You also have the right to complain to your national supervisory authority.
International transfers
I am based in the United States and the services listed above are operated from the United States. If you contact me from outside the US, your information will be transferred to and processed there.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS and administrative access is limited to me. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so I cannot guarantee absolute security, but I do not collect payment card details through this website and never will.
Children
This site sells business services and is not directed at children. I do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has sent me information, email me and I will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If I add analytics or advertising tracking to this site, or change the services it relies on, I will update this policy and change the date at the top before or at the time that change goes live.
